Biophilica Leather is a carbon negative, fully recyclable, home compostable material – entirely from plants and green waste.
There is 6m tonnes of green waste in the UK annually sent to composting.
The process uses 0.0006% of the water in leather production, 0.001% in cotton production. Material scraps in can be closed-loop reused.
Vegan leathers are growing in number but most are not biodegradable nor recyclable as they contain plastics.
Intended for fashion and furniture, we have prototyped shoes and bags. Initial tests indicate higher tensile strength than the compared synthetic leather.
