We propose a transparent tracking system for retail food items. Itemising the value of foods as a bond, we can encourage responsible redistribution and sanction waste. Non-profit groups can request to get nutritious foods previously deemed too perishable to take. This is facilitated by distributed ledger technology with a proof of concept developed using the IOTA tangle ledger. We believe all food in retail should reach people. By signalling demand from those in need and intercepting waste, the Fair Food Framework can intelligently redistribute food to help end food insecurity for good.
