More people die from the cold in the UK than Sweden. During winter, that’s one elderly person every seven minutes.

To prevent these deaths, a room has to be just 18 degrees. But with 11% of British households living in fuel poverty, many face a choice between heating and eating.

Scientists at Swansea University recently found that by adding Calcium Chloride, the grit used on icy roads, to vermiculite, a potting material sold in garden centres, you make a mixture that stores heat… for ages.

Elliot, Joe and Nick decided to use this innovation and produce a service with Ikea.
