Architecture, Engineering & Interior Design
Arts University Bournemouth
A co-housing self-sustaining intervention in Bournemouth town centre: the ‘Urban Chine’ is a precedent for architecture which improves human and planetary health through inclusion of the natural world – biophilic design.
Made from predominantly Cross-Laminated Timber, the building is fully recyclable and has a low carbon footprint.
Natural materials and greenery envelope the modular structure in a timber grid-shell, which houses plants, solar panels and algae curtains.
The ‘eco-drape’ is a living pollution filter for the inhabitants, with a healing ripple effect into the wider community.
