Born in Dumfries, Scotland, Ian is currently Design Director at Jaguar and – as a result of his formative work on the Aston Martin DB7 – is widely acknowledged as one of the world’s foremost automotive designers.
Recruited straight from college by Ford Motor Company, he spent 12 years in the company’s international design studios working on the Fiesta, Mondeo, Ford RS200 mid-engined sports car as well as the Escort RS Cosworth.
Following a spell as design manager at the Ghia Design Studio in Turin, he returned to the UK to join TWR Group as Chief Designer. It was here that he revived Aston Martin’s famous DB series with the DB7, as well as creating the Vanquish and DB9.
Ian joined Jaguar in 1999 and is responsible for leading the design teams in the latest XK line as well as re-establishing Jaguar’s sports saloon credentials with the XF and, subsequently, the all new XJ. He was also instrumental in creating the R-Coupe and RD-6 concept cars, as well as Jaguar’s latest creation, the C-X75.
